The Draw: Week 14
Quarterbacks
Chad Henne- Miami Dolphins
Henne had a terrific game in week 13 but he was forced to go to the air more than usual being that he was facing a potent offense in the Patriots. Henne completed 29 of 52 passes, that’s right 52 pass attempts, for 335 yards 2 TDs and 1 INT. He was hitting receivers all over the field and was able to lead the Dolphins to a big 1 point victory over the Patriots. Miami gets to face the Jags, Titans and Texans over the next 3 weeks and Henne will most definitely get chances to make plays.
Jason Campbell- Washington Redskins
Campbell was in the same position that Henne was in for week 13. Campbell had to face an explosive team in the Saints and it turned out to be an aerial display on both sides. Brees topped 400 yards and had a couple of scoring strikes while Campbell posted 367 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT on 30 of 42 pass attempts. This game may’ve been the best of the weekend and dare I say that Campbell is settling into the position for the Redskins. Keep your eyes on him and add him if needed.
Brady Quinn-Cleveland Browns
I talked below about how Jerome Harrison presented solid value because of his upcoming schedule and Quinn here, being on the same team, fits the bill as well. Quinn has been very inconsistent this year and really can’t settle into the starting gig as the team keeps playing musical QBs with him and Anderson. Now that it seems that Quinn has a firm grasp on the job and a very favorable schedule, maybe he begins to flourish. That’s saying a lot but you just never know. In week 13, Quinn completed 25 of 45 passes for 271 yards and 3 TDs while adding 8 yards on 2 rushes. Getting to play the Chiefs and Raiders in weeks 15 and 16 can only help his chances.
QBs mentioned before and worth mentioning again…
Bruce Gradkowski- Oakland Raiders (Russell on the bench equates to a Raiders’ victory with Gradkowski at the helm, against one of the hottest teams in the NFL. The Raiders are just not a team that is going to put up big numbers but if Gradkowski gets to keep the job for any length of time, he could end up being serviceable. The Oakland defense isn’t terrible (alright, the run D is pretty bad), their running game can be effective with Bush, Fargas and McFadden and those things can enable Gradkowski to manage things while minimizing the mistakes. In week 11, Gradkowski completed 17 of 34 passes for 183 yards 2 TDs 1 INT and added 6 rushes for 8 yards. Gradkowski completed as many TDs in one week, that Russell completed in 9 weeks (up until week 10) and he also threw for 1/5 of the total yardage in one week that Russell threw for 9 weeks. Benching Russell and starting anyone else was a move that should’ve been made sooner. Keep Gradkowski in the back of your mind as an option especially in deeper leagues. Week 12- Gradkowski completed 18 of 35 passes for 200 yards and 1 TD while adding 3 rushes for 30 more yards. In week 13, Gradkowski carried the Raiders to a big win over the Steelers by completing 20 of 33 passes for 308 yards and 3 TDs while rushing 3 times for 20 more yards.
Chris Redman- Atlanta Falcons (There is some speculation surfacing that Matt Ryan could be done for the year as he has ligament damage in his toe. He is going to see specialists and may need surgery which could end his season. He’s more than likely out for week 13 and very possibly beyond. In week 12, Redman came in for Ryan and completed 23 of 41 passes for 243 yards and 2 TDs, one of them being the game-winner. Redman makes for a solid addition for any team looking for an upgrade at the QB position. In week 13, Redman and the Falcons got a beat down at the hands of the Eagles but Redman still completed 23 of 44 passes for 235 yards 1 TD and 2 INTs. Certainly not a great game but against the Eagles, it’s passable.
Running Backs
Sammy Morris- New England Patriots
Morris has returned to the Patriots lineup and is splitting carries with Lawrence Maroney who never seems like he can just take the job and run with it. It’s tough to do on this team anyhow because of the Patriots primarily being a passing team but also because of all the other options at RB. Fred Taylor went down but the Patriots were still feeding the ball to several different runners other than Maroney- Morris, Faulk and Green-Ellis. However, Morris got 11 touches in week 13- 9 carries for 40 yards and 2 receptions for 25 yards. As the bitter cold comes, will the Pats turn to their ground game a bit more and how much will Maroney and Morris split? Can both continue to stay healthy? If one goes down, the other will be very valuable in the fantasy playoffs. Keep tabs on Morris and add him if you’re in desperate need of a RB.
Jerome Harrison- Cleveland Browns
Jamal Lewis gets placed on IR and fantasy owners everywhere wondered who was going to be the main ball carrier for the Browns. Not that the Browns produce big fantasy numbers but a starting RB is tough to find on the WW, if at all. In week 13, Harrison grabbed 10 carries for 35 yards and he also tallied 7 grabs for 62 yards and 2 receiving TDs. At this point, Harrison has to be given the edge of Jennings but both will receive playing time moving forward. With the Browns playing the Chiefs and Raiders in weeks 15 and 16, Harrison could be worth a look.
RBs mentioned before and worth mentioning again…
Rock Cartwright- Washington Redskins (WOW! The Redskins’ backfield has quickly become an absolute mash unit. Portis suffered a concussion and hasn’t played and won’t be active this week. His backup, Ladell Betts, was just put on the IR with a torn ACL and his done for the year. Next up is Rock Cartwright who had a pretty impressive game against the Cowboys in week 11. Cartwright rushed 13 times for 67 yards and added 7 receptions for 73 more yards. 20 total touches for 140 yards is a great way to start off carrying the load and showing your team that you can handle the extra touches. Cartwright could very well be the hottest WW add this week as for now the job is his and getting a starting RB this late in the season, can only help strengthen your team. Week 12- Cartwright carried 15 times for 38 yards and added 3 receptions for 26 yards. Week 13- Cartwright rushed 13 times for 39 yards and caught 3 passes for 31 yards.
Wide Receivers
Devin Thomas- Washington Redskins
The Skins put up a very valiant effort against a very strong offensive and defensive team in the Saints. As mentioned above, Campbell had a terrific game through the air and one of the main recipients of those totals was Devin Thomas. In standard leagues, Thomas had just as many fantasy points in week 13 as he had accumulated for all the previous weeks combined up until now. Certainly sounds like a one hit wonder to me but in this game, you can’t wait to find out if it was or if he and Campbell are starting to really click together in the absence of TE, Chris Cooley. More likely the Skins took what a very solid defense (Saints) gave them and Thomas was the open guy. Will Thomas post another game like this, this year? Probably not but if you have some garbage players taking up space, might as well roll the dice with Thomas.
Louis Murphy- Oakland Raiders
Like Thomas above (just not as extreme a comparison), Murphy almost matched his season-to-date efforts in standard scoring leagues in week 13 alone. Murphy had scored 37 points on the year in standard leagues and scored 24 in week 13. Will Murphy return to his normal production of about 4-7 points per game or are he and Gradkowski heating up? I’d have to think that he’s another one week wonder deal but who knows. Again if you have dead weight you want to cut, Murphy makes a decent candidate to add. I just can’t imagine starting him in the playoffs unless I was absolutely desperate.
WRs mentioned before and worth mentioning again…
Davone Bess- Miami Dolphins (With Henne at the helm, it’s tough to ever bank on production from this passing unit. However, in week 9 against the Patriots, the Dolphins needed to put the ball in the air a bit more and both Camarillo and Bess had nice numbers. Camarillo caught 5 balls for 71 yards and Bess grabbed 6 for 56 yards. Miami gets to face the Bucs this week and should be able to post some fantasy friendly numbers. Scoop up Camarillo and if not him, Bess if you’re in need of WR help. In week 10, Camarillo had a down week but Bess caught 4 balls for 72 yards. Week 11, Bess caught 6 balls for 63 yards. Week 12- Bess caught 3 balls for 34 yards. Week 13- Bess caught 10 passes for 117 yards and 1 TD.
Kenny Britt- Tennessee Titans (Kenny Britt is more than likely already owned but if he’s not, go scoop him up as it seems Vince Young has made a nice little connection with him. In week 12, Britt caught 7 balls for 128 yards and 1 TD. As Young continues to settle in and get more comfy from week to week, more big things from this team should be expected. Britt is a big play-maker for this surging team. Week 13- Britt caught 3 passes for 46 yards and 1 TD.
Antonio Bryant- Tamp Bay Bucs (Bryant hasn’t really been healthy all year this year and many have now forgotten what he was able to accomplish last season. The questions are: can Bryant rekindle some of last year’s magic for this late season run and can the rookie QB, Freeman , connect with him enough to make it possible? In week 12, Bryant caught only 3 balls but for 91 yards and 1 TD. Add Bryant and keep tabs on his health and matchups moving forward. Week 13- Bryant caught 5 passes for 116 yards.
Tight End
TEs mentioned before and worth mentioning again…
Fred Davis- Washington Redskins (Chris Cooley will probably not come back this year and may be put on IR. Davis would continue to be the main TE for the Skins and in week 12 he grabbed 4 balls for 43 yards and 1 TD. He should continue to perform fairly well and if he had a better QB, he could be a more effective TE from week to week. Week 13- Davis caught 5 passes for 53 yards and 1 TD.
Anthony Fasano- Miami Dolphins (Fasano is another TE target who when healthy is a heavily used target within the Dolphins’ offense. This week Fasano showed that he’s back and ready to contribute as he grabbed 5 passes for 74 yards. He is a guy that Henne looks to quite often and should be highly targeted on a weekly basis from here on out as long as he remains healthy. Week 13- Fasano caught 5 passes for 67 yards.

Tuesday’s Draw: Week 11
Week 10 is in the books and team owners are scouring the waiver wire, studying their rosters, noticing strengths/identifying weaknesses, preparing to submit what they hope will be the best possible lineup for Week 10. Part of having a successful season involves the ability to pluck the diamonds from the rough (better known as the free agent market). Here are a few possible candidates we’re suggesting for various reasons (be it as a long-term acquisition or as a one week plug and play)
